awards & Prizes
Rainshadow Running celebrates all runners. We encourage friendly, respectful and fun competition at our races for those that want to "race" but we also acknowledge and honor that running without competing with anyone is just as awesome and important. With that in mind we don't put a lot of energy into the "race" part of our races and from what we can tell that's just fine with most folks. We do offer some pretty sweet(if we do say so ourselves) performance based awards to the fastest three runners in each gender category -- a hand-etched growler with the race logo on it. The growlers are made by Fresh Northwest Design(Gig Harbor, WA). And our logo artist is Red Umbrella Designs(Twsip, WA). We also offer many non-performance based prizes that all runners and volunteers have an equal chance of winning through a randomized process and when the race budget allows we also give all runners a practical and commemorative item(usually a pint glass) with the race logo on it that many runners choose to treat as their "race medal".
A bit about gender categories... it has come to our attention that by only offering two gender categories when runners register for our races and by only offering results and awards for those two genders we unintentionally have discriminated against runners who are not represented by that binary system. Going forward we will work to address this important issue in all that we do from the registration process, awards and more and we will help to lead our community to a place where discrimination in any form is eliminated.
