Olympus View 50k/35k
 August 4th & 5th, 2018      Olympic National Forest
Pending denied for 2018

Permit Denial
The forest service has denied the permit for 2018 due to budget cuts and a lack of staff to adequately cover the event.  The situation may change next year so we plan to apply again for 2019.  As soon as we have more details we will update this page.

General Description:

For years we've sought out the perfect location for some trail races on the Olympic Peninsula. All of the trails inside the National Park are off limits to races but The Mt Muller/Snider Ridge Area, just outside of the park boundary feels like being in the park without the restrictions. This area of the Olympics, just west of the town of Port Angeles and Lake Crescent, has some of the same characteristics as the trails on the other side of the imaginary line such as the big trees, dense forests, deep green moss, ridge top vistas and big climbs. Oh yes, these trails are steep, beautiful and fun!  And as the name suggests you'll have lots of views of the snow and ice covered Mt Olympus just a few ridges to the south.

Course Details:

Both courses are nearly 100% single track, and are "lollipop" style routes with the the difference between the two being that the 35k has a shorter "stick" and "loop". Most of the of the course is not super technical but the trail is narrow at times and other than when you're up on the ridge which is a significant portion of the courses the trails are steep. Most of the course is in dense forest but up on the ridge you have lots of miles of open trails with unobstructed views to the south of Olympus and the rest of the Olympic Mountains. And to the West you can see the Pacific Ocean and on a clear day you can even get a view to the east of Mt Rainier!

The 50k has about 10,000ft of elevation gain mostly coming in three big climbs

The 35k has about 7,000ft of elevation gain mostly from two big climbs
